Loft insulation after rodent activity: inspection before replacement

Replacing insulation is a significant decision and should follow an assessment of contamination, damage and access. New insulation alone does not resolve a route that allows rodents to return.

Separate the questions

Ask which sections are affected and what evidence supports removal. Check whether the quote includes disposal, cleaning and new material, or only one stage. Mention pipes, wiring and any areas that cannot safely be reached.

Resolve the wider problem

Discuss monitoring and entry-point repairs alongside the hygiene work. Replacement may need a separate building or insulation contractor, so confirm responsibilities. Keeping the findings and completed repairs together makes it easier to understand what has changed and prevents a clean loft from being treated as proof that the original access issue has been solved.

Confirm the replacement specification

If new insulation is included, ask what is being supplied and whether separate building requirements need assessment. Keep that part of the quotation distinct from pest treatment and waste removal. It helps you compare proposals without assuming all loft-clean prices deliver the same final result.
