Bed bug treatment follow-up: what to record

After a bed bug treatment, the follow-up plan should explain how the room will be checked and what you should report. One good or bad night is not a reliable measure of the overall result.

Use observable evidence

Record live insects, locations and dates, taking photographs where possible. Note any changes to sleeping arrangements or belongings. Bites can have several causes, so report them alongside environmental evidence rather than using them alone to judge treatment.

Follow the aftercare instructions

Cleaning, laundering and room access requirements vary with the treatment used. Ask before vacuuming treated areas or adding another product. Keep scheduled inspections and tell the contractor if you cannot follow a preparation step. A clear record helps the next visit assess progress and decide whether the plan needs adjustment.

Report barriers to aftercare

If you cannot follow a cleaning or laundry instruction, explain the difficulty before improvising an alternative. The contractor may need to clarify the requirement or adjust practical arrangements. A documented limitation is easier to address than an unreported change that affects how the next visit is interpreted.
