Pest problems after building repairs: reviewing what changed

A pest sighting after repairs may be related to changed access, disturbed spaces or something unrelated. A useful review starts with the work and the evidence rather than assuming the contractor introduced the problem.

Create a short timeline

List the areas worked on, dates and when signs first appeared. Include photographs of service openings or unfinished areas where safely accessible. Note whether a pest problem existed before the repair.

Coordinate the next inspection

Provide the timeline to the pest contractor and relevant building trade. Ask which openings need repair and whether active occupancy changes the timing. Avoid sealing suspected entrances or disturbing wall voids before assessment. Clear communication helps the inspection and maintenance work address the same evidence without turning a coincidence into an unsupported explanation.

Give each trade the same brief

Share relevant findings and access limits with the builder and pest contractor. A repair that one company expects another to perform can otherwise remain outstanding. Record the agreed responsibilities so the follow-up checks reflect work actually completed rather than work only discussed.
