Pest inspections in Edinburgh city-centre flats: planning access

City-centre flat inspections can require extra planning where entrances, keys and shared access are involved. A clear booking brief helps the visit focus on the pest evidence rather than delays at the building door.

Provide the access details

Explain entry systems, stairs and where the affected flat sits within the building. Tell the contractor about parking or loading restrictions you know of without assuming access will be available. Arrange a contact who can be reached at the appointment time.

Explain shared areas

Mention communal cupboards, bin stores and any sightings beyond the flat. Ask the owner or factor to arrange relevant access if needed. Treatment and proofing recommendations depend on what can be inspected, so identifying access limits early can prevent a partial visit being mistaken for a full building assessment.

Arrange who can provide keys

Communal access may require a factor or another resident, so confirm the arrangement before the visit. Tell the contractor if some areas will remain unavailable. The report should distinguish inspected rooms from inaccessible shared spaces and explain whether further access is recommended.
