A wasp nest in a shed: keeping the area accessible safely

Sheds provide sheltered places where a wasp nest may go unnoticed until equipment is needed. Once activity is apparent, preparation should avoid disturbing the nest or forcing anyone through the flight path.

Limit unnecessary entry

Keep people and pets away and explain the location to other household members. Do not move stored items beside the nest or try to knock it down. Tell the technician whether access is through the shed door or another opening.

Give useful site details

Mention nearby seating, garden paths and any equipment that must be retrieved. Ask how the visit will be managed and what aftercare restrictions apply to the chosen treatment. Do not assume the area is immediately clear afterwards; follow the instructions provided for your particular nest and access arrangement.

Explain whether the shed is essential

If it contains a freezer, mobility equipment or tools needed daily, tell the contractor. Practical access restrictions should be discussed as part of the visit. Avoid entering just to retrieve belongings from beside the nest before you have received advice for the situation.
