Why a wasp nest entrance should not simply be sealed

An opening used by wasps can look like an obvious gap to repair. If it leads to an active nest, closing it before assessment can create a different access problem rather than resolving the activity.

Separate treatment from repair

Do not apply sealant, foam or tape to the suspected entrance. Avoid opening nearby fittings or entering the void to find the nest. Record the route from a safe position and explain its location when booking.

Plan the later repair

Ask the technician when the area can be checked and whether building work is appropriate after the activity is managed. Required ventilation and the condition of the surface also matter. A clear sequence lets the pest assessment guide repairs instead of treating a building opening as proof that sealing alone will solve the problem.

Let repair contractors know about activity

If a roofer or joiner is already booked, explain the suspected nest and ask how the work should be coordinated. A trade attending unaware may disturb the area. Keep the pest assessment and repair timing connected rather than giving separate contractors conflicting instructions.
