Ants appearing in a kitchen: following the route

An ant trail can help show where insects are finding access or food, but the species and source still need assessment. Treating only the insects visible on the worktop may leave the underlying activity unexplained.

Record before disturbing

Photograph the trail and note which surface or opening it uses. Keep food securely stored and remove spills. Avoid placing household chemicals into sockets, service openings or food cupboards in an attempt to reach a hidden nest.

Ask for identification

Describe whether activity is confined to one room or seen elsewhere in the property. Different ants can call for different advice, so do not assume a treatment used outdoors suits an indoor problem. An inspection can guide suitable treatment and practical prevention based on the insects and routes actually found.

Check the external pattern too

If ants are also visible near the wall outside, note the position without disturbing them. That information can help the inspection compare indoor and outdoor activity. It is a clue to investigate rather than proof that treating the garden will resolve the kitchen problem.
