Before a pest inspection: five details that help the visit

A short description can make a pest inspection more focused. You do not need to identify the insect or animal yourself; useful observations help the technician decide where to start.

Send the core information

Include your postcode, the rooms or outdoor areas affected, what you saw, when it happened and any clear photographs taken safely. Distinguish a sighting from a noise or damage that has not been identified. Mention previous treatment or building work.

Explain the household and access

Tell the contractor about pets, children and rooms or fittings that are difficult to reach. Ask what preparation is needed before moving furniture or cleaning away evidence. Good information helps establish the scope and avoids applying a generic treatment plan to a situation that first needs investigation.

Do not delay for a perfect photograph

If obtaining an image means approaching a nest, climbing or handling contamination, give a description instead. The contractor can explain what evidence is useful and arrange inspection. Safe, accurate information is more valuable than a close-up obtained by disturbing the area or exposing someone to the problem.
