Bird netting maintenance: what to report promptly

A bird netting system needs attention if it becomes damaged, loose or obstructed. A small defect can change how birds interact with the installation, so reports should be specific.

Observe from a safe position

Describe the location of a gap, loose section or bird inside the protected area. Photograph it if safe without climbing or approaching the bird. Do not pull at the net or attempt a repair that could trap an animal.

Arrange an appropriate check

Contact the installer or a competent contractor and explain access requirements. A trapped or injured bird needs prompt advice from an appropriate wildlife professional. Ask how routine inspections and repairs will be recorded so the system remains suitable for the space and any developing defects are addressed rather than overlooked.

Do not overlook nearby maintenance

Roof works, window cleaning or replacement cables can affect a fitted net. Tell visiting contractors about the system and report any disturbance afterwards. A maintenance record should include those events so a later defect can be assessed in context and repaired appropriately.
