Cockroaches in a shared building: why neighbouring access can matter

Where cockroaches are confirmed in a shared building, activity may involve connected spaces rather than one room alone. The inspection should establish the relevant routes before deciding how widely checks need to extend.

Share the building information

Tell the contractor about adjoining flats, service cupboards and shared utility routes. Record which properties have reported sightings without assuming any one occupant caused the problem.

Agree coordinated access

Ask the factor or managing agent to arrange access where the findings justify it. Keep residents' preparation instructions consistent and record completed maintenance. Individual treatment can be harder to assess if important connected areas remain unavailable, so a clear building contact and shared reporting process can improve the practical delivery of the plan.

Retain each property's observations

A central building log should preserve the flat or area associated with each sighting. Combining reports is useful, but removing their locations loses the pattern. Clear records help the contractor decide where access is most relevant and avoid treating an entire building solely from an unlocated complaint.
