Fleas in a home with pets: coordinating treatment

When fleas are suspected, attention to the property and the animal needs to be coordinated. A room treatment cannot replace appropriate veterinary advice for a pet, and treating the pet alone may leave environmental activity unresolved.

Speak to the right professionals

Ask your vet about suitable care for the animal and tell the pest technician what has been recommended. Never use a household insecticide on a pet or assume a product for one species suits another.

Map the household activity

Record where pets rest, where insects are seen and which rooms are affected. Follow the contractor's preparation and aftercare instructions, including advice about vacuuming and access. An agreed timetable helps the household response address relevant areas without mixing products or overlooking regular resting places.

Include every regular resting area

Pets may use a sofa, carer’s home or a different room from the one you first noticed. Tell the professionals about relevant household locations so advice is coordinated. Do not apply environmental products to the animal or extend treatment to another property without assessment.
