Moths in carpets: checking edges and sheltered areas

Damage along carpet edges or under furniture can be easy to miss. Moths are one possible cause, but other textile pests and ordinary wear can look similar at first glance.

Inspect without dismantling

Check accessible edges, beneath movable furniture and around stored textiles. Take photographs that show both the damage and its position in the room. Do not pull up fitted flooring before discussing what evidence is needed.

Consider the whole room

A visible patch may not be the only affected area. Tell the technician about wool rugs, upholstered furniture and stored clothing nearby. Preparation and fabric care should follow identification, with clear instructions on what can be moved or cleaned and what needs further inspection rather than relying on a spray applied only to the damaged patch.

Mention rooms with similar materials

A wool rug elsewhere or stored carpet offcuts may be relevant if the same pest is confirmed. List the materials without moving them together. The inspection can then decide which areas deserve checking, instead of assuming that one visible patch defines the entire extent of the problem.
