Pest control in food stores: reviewing incoming goods

Deliveries can introduce damaged packaging or unfamiliar insects to a stockroom. An orderly receiving process helps staff spot concerns before goods are mixed into established stock.

Check and record concerns

Follow the business's procedures for examining packaging and separating suspect stock. Record the delivery, item and signs observed, including photographs when useful. Do not assume every insect came from the supplier without an identification and review.

Support the wider inspection

Keep shelving accessible and avoid loose stock on the floor. Share the records with the responsible manager and pest contractor. Ask whether the finding suggests a storage issue, an entry route or another cause. The aim is to connect observations to a clear action while preserving the evidence needed to investigate.

Record how suspect stock was handled

If items are isolated, returned or discarded under the business's procedures, note the decision and location. That gives the inspection a clear trail without leaving unrecorded goods spread around the store. Keep supplier communications factual and separate from conclusions that still require identification.
