Why mice can return after treatment

A quieter kitchen after treatment is encouraging, but it does not necessarily show that the access problem has been resolved. Renewed sightings deserve a fresh assessment rather than an assumption that the same treatment should be repeated.

Review entry and food sources

Check whether doors, pipe openings or shared voids were identified during the original visit. Food waste, pet food and damaged cupboard packaging can also sustain activity. Discuss which proofing work was completed and which remained a recommendation.

Compare old and new activity

Keep dates and locations of fresh signs. In flats, new activity may involve movement from connected properties. Ask whether monitoring, neighbouring access or a revised treatment plan is appropriate. Prevention depends on understanding why the property remains accessible, as well as reducing the activity already inside.

Separate fresh signs from old marks

A repair made after the previous visit gives a useful reference point. If new gnawing appears on that repaired surface, photograph it and record the date. An unchanged old mark is less informative, so keep your reports focused on evidence that has actually developed.
