Bee activity at home: when advice may be enough

Bees visiting plants are different from a colony occupying a building cavity. Identification and the location of activity help determine whether any intervention is needed.

Watch the pattern safely

Note whether insects are moving between flowers, entering one hole or forming a cluster. Keep a safe distance and avoid blocking entrances or spraying the area. A clear description helps distinguish routine garden activity from a building-related concern.

Ask for suitable guidance

Discuss the insects' identity, the position and how people use the area. Some situations may need a bee specialist; others may be suitable for observation and simple access precautions. Do not assume every buzzing insect is a wasp or that every bee sighting requires removal from the property.

Give advice room to be proportionate

Some garden bee activity can be managed by leaving the insects undisturbed and adjusting use of a small area. A building cavity or inaccessible cluster raises different questions. Describe the location and impact so advice is based on the situation rather than the mere presence of bees.
