Describe the surface and access
Tell the surveyor where birds land, how the area is maintained and whether windows or equipment need access. Mention existing fittings and any nesting activity. The assessment must consider protected birds and the lawful timing of work.
Compare practical details
Ask why the proposed system suits the location, how it will be fixed and how it will be inspected. Good installation needs to avoid trapping birds and preserve necessary access. Request a breakdown of cleaning, preparation, fitting and ongoing maintenance so quotations cover comparable work.
Ask about existing systems
If spikes or netting are already fitted, show where birds are still landing. A new installation may not be the first step; condition, coverage and maintenance may need assessment. Keep the history of earlier work so the survey considers why the present arrangement is underperforming.
