Door gaps and rodents: checking thresholds without blocking access

A gap beneath a door can be worth assessing during rodent-proofing work. The right repair should allow the door to close correctly and account for ventilation, drainage and any emergency access requirements.

Check how the door operates

Look for damaged seals, uneven thresholds and worn corners. Photograph the closed door and explain whether it serves a home, bin store or commercial delivery area. Avoid improvised fittings that obstruct movement or stop the door closing.

Match the repair to the site

Ask whether the gap is a likely route and what material is suitable. A fitted threshold or seal still needs inspection as it wears. Combine the door check with the wider building assessment so repairing one opening is not mistaken for proof that every potential route has been addressed.

Check the door after fitting

A new seal should not prevent the door latching or create an obstruction for users. Arrange inspection of the finished work and report any operational problem. Proofing is part of building maintenance, so a repair that looks effective but interferes with normal access still needs attention.
