Rodent proofing after renovation: checking new service openings

Building work can change routes through a property. New pipes, cables and moved units deserve a check when rodent signs appear during or after renovation.

Share the work history

Tell the inspector which rooms changed, where services were added and whether walls or floors were opened. Keep photographs from the work if available. Avoid blaming the renovation without evidence; the dates and altered areas simply help focus the inspection.

Coordinate practical repairs

Ask the builder or relevant trade about closing redundant openings and finishing penetrations correctly. Do not seal live service fittings or required airflow paths yourself. Where rodents are active, agree the timing with the pest contractor so repair work complements the treatment and does not leave animals concealed in inaccessible spaces.

Keep unfinished work identified

If building work is still underway, list openings that are temporary and those that have been left permanently. Tell the pest contractor about the schedule. The inspection can then discuss interim monitoring and the timing of final repairs instead of treating a changing building as a finished layout.
