Preparing a bedroom for a bed bug inspection

Preparation for inspection differs from preparation for a particular treatment. The first aim is to make the room accessible while keeping potential evidence and belongings in their original context.

Create sensible access

Clear a safe route to the bed and tell the technician about heavy furniture or fixed fittings. Do not move mattresses, bedding or bedside furniture into unaffected rooms. Ask before emptying cupboards or undertaking a major clear-out.

Keep a useful history

Record when the problem was first noticed, which rooms are affected and any products already used. Mention pets, children and access restrictions. Once the inspection identifies what is present, request written preparation instructions for the selected approach rather than following generic internet advice that may not fit the treatment.

Keep the room history clear

If the bed was moved or new furniture arrived before the concern began, mention the dates. Do not treat the timing as proof of a source. It simply helps the inspection follow the room's changes and consider where relevant hiding places may now be located.
