Wasps on commercial premises: planning around customers

A nest near a business entrance or delivery route creates an access issue as well as a pest concern. An assessment should account for staff, visitors and the way the site operates.

Map the affected route

Record where insects enter and which doors, seating areas or loading points are nearby. Keep staff informed and avoid directing customers past the activity while arrangements are made. Do not seal the opening as a temporary fix.

Agree the visit arrangements

Explain busy periods, site access and any restrictions on working near equipment or food. Ask for clear instructions about the affected area after treatment and who will monitor reports. The plan should make practical sense for the business, including any later building repairs recommended after the nest activity is addressed.

Choose a site contact

Nominate someone who can confirm access and distribute aftercare instructions to staff. An instruction given to only one person may be missed by another shift. Keep the affected route clearly identified so later work or deliveries do not inadvertently disturb the nest area.
